Q1: I need a rangefinder to measure different yardages on golfcourses. Accuracy has be max +- 1 yrd. I find it difficult to choose amongst many brands and models. Can you help me out?
A: For golfers the one that works the best is the Nikon LaserCaddy 500G Golf Rangefinder.
Q2: I know very little about binoculars. what make would be best for my needs? how to tell how powerful they are eg. 7 x 50? I would mainly be using them for fell walking looking around for good views and spotting land marks to help me reach my destination qu
A: Rangefinding binoculars Could be very useful in playing golf, helping to pinpoint yardage to hazards, etc. Binoculars are designated by magnification and objective lens (the big one opposite the eyepieces) diameter. Hence a 7x50 binocular produces 7X magnification and has 50mm objective lenses. Generally speaking, the larger the objecrive lens is in relation to magnification, the brighter your views will be. Magnification also magnifies things like heat shimmer and hand shake to the point where a tripod is necessary at much over 10X. You've already found Bushnell's Yardage Pro Quest 8x36 rangefinding binocular for $399. It's the least expensive of the units we carry. At the other end of the spectrum is the Leupold RB800C 8X32 Rangefinding Binocular w/Compass. It offers nice, clear 8x optics to go with an accurate laser range finder. The range finder includes scan mode, so you can get running range readouts on moving objects. It's $799. The other unit we carru is the Burris 7x40 B-1500 Laser Rangefinding Binocular. Its 40mm objective lenses will admit more light than the objectives of the other two. And this unit has a scan mode, as well, so you can range on moving objects. Here's the URL: http://binoculars.com/products/burris-7x40-b-1500-laser-rangefinding-binocular-28427.html.
